Browser extension · developer build

Install it now,
three steps.

Download the package and add it to Chrome. Same code, same features — the install just doesn't wait for anything. Once it's in, selecting text on any page is all it takes to start collecting.

Step one

Unzip it into a folder of your own

Don't drag the zip into the browser — unzip it first. Pick a place that stays put, like Documents / Inkory, because Chrome loads the extension from that folder. Delete or move the folder and the extension stops working.

Step two

Open the extensions page

Type chrome://extensions in the address bar and press Enter. Turn on Developer mode in the top right corner. A row of buttons appears above the list.

Step three

Load the folder you just unzipped

Click Load unpacked and select the unzipped folder (not the zip itself), then confirm. When Inkory appears in the list, it's installed. Pin it from the puzzle-piece menu in the toolbar to keep it one click away.

Two things you may see while installing

"Disable developer mode extensions"
That's Chrome's fixed notice for every extension that doesn't come from the store. It isn't an error and it doesn't mean Chrome found a problem. Click Keep and the extension keeps working. The notice can reappear on each launch — that's normal.

Does it read my pages?
The permission Chrome lists for this extension reads "Read and change all your data on all websites." That describes the scope it is allowed to work in, not what it is doing. Pages are actually read at two moments only: when you select a sentence and hit highlight, it needs that sentence; and when you return to a page you have highlighted, it reads the text there to put your highlights back where they belong. The rest of the time it sits idle and waits for you — no background scanning, no scheduled crawling, and no record of which sites you visit.

But nothing is uploaded. Highlights and drafts live in your browser's local storage. There's no account and no copy on our servers. The only outbound request is the AI check you set up yourself — it goes to whoever you gave the key to.

Updating later

  • Download the new package, unzip it, and overwrite the old folder
  • Back on chrome://extensions, click the refresh icon on the Inkory card
  • Highlights and drafts live in browser storage — replacing the code doesn't touch them

On Edge, swap every chrome:// for edge://. The steps are identical.

Updating

Overwrite the folder you unpacked, then hit reload on chrome://extensions. Your highlights, notes and drafts live in local storage and are untouched by an update.
