The day it expires: what stops, what doesn't
You wrote the drafts, they aren't our hostage. Features can switch off, but nothing already stored on your machine gets locked.
Questions
Where is my data? What if I change computers?
Everything sits in your own browser's local storage and never goes to our servers. To move machines, use the full backup: export a zip, import it on the new machine. It first tells you "N new · M conflicts" and by default only fills in what's missing, never silently overwriting what you already have. Pro can also bind a folder (a synced cloud directory, say) and write each backup straight into it.
Do I need my own API key for AI checking?
Yes. It's BYOK: you enter the endpoint and the key, and you pay the model provider directly. We don't proxy the calls, don't mark up the price, and don't cap how many times you run it. Skip it and every local feature still works — you just lose checking and Q&A.
Does the AI verify facts for me?
No, and we don't have that ability. What it does is compare what your draft says against the sources you cited: whether you went past the original, whether two passages contradict each other, which sentence needs a citation. Every finding links back to the sentence so you can judge it yourself. Externally we only ever say "compares against the source", never "verifies truth".
Can I export? Am I locked in?
Export is free forever, with no paywall. Markdown, Word, annotated PDFs, reference lists — Free users export all of it. We don't hold your work hostage to force an upgrade.
Do I have to write in your editor?
No. Inkory is a browser extension, not a new app you have to move your work into. Your CMS, your company wiki, any web-based editor — write wherever you already write, and check it on that same page. There's also a built-in writing desk for when you'd rather start from blank.
Can I export to Obsidian or Notion?
Markdown and Word export directly, with images in a sibling folder referenced by relative path, so a markdown file dropped into an Obsidian vault is a native note — no plugin required. We deliberately don't build a Notion API integration: that would need extra authorization and a live connection, which conflicts with our "only AI goes online" rule. In practice you copy and paste, and Notion turns the markdown into blocks.
Why 14 days instead of 7?
Writing is a low-frequency action. In 7 days, someone who writes weekly might produce one piece; someone who writes monthly might spend the whole week just reading. The worst case for a 7-day trial is expiring before they ever used it. 14 days covers a two-week minimum writing rhythm.
Which browsers are supported?
Chrome 116 and later for now. Edge, which runs the same Chromium engine, is next. Other browsers aren't supported — we don't chase long-tail compatibility, and we'd rather miss a label than label something wrongly.
Run the full loop first. Then talk money.
One highlight, one paragraph, one check. 14 days is plenty of loops.
